Blog #4- Nature vs Nurture

The novel The Outsiders begs the question, are we a product of nature (how we are born) or nurture (what environment we are raised in)? Discuss whether you think the Greasers and Socs are products of nature or nurture. You need to discuss both the Socs and the Greasers, so you should have at least two paragraphs (a minimum of 5 sentences!).

Be sure to include specific examples from the text to support your theory. For example (and you cannot use mine in your response): I believe that Johnny is a product of nurture. I believe this because he was very timid because of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father.

Hi I am Klara. I am fifteen years old. I am having many troubles in school and at home. And I think I need some help, but I waited to long to get it.

Now I am dead. I died November 3^rd 2010. I was walking home by myself in the middle of the night. It was very dark and scary. I was walking up to my grandparent’s house after volleyball practice. The street lights flickered. I heard noises in the bushes so I started a light jog. I was already very worn out from volleyball practice but I just kept going. I kept hearing noises so I started to run then before I knew it I was at my grandparent’s house.

My mother works very late night and I have never met my father. My mom doesn’t know this but I actually talk to him all of the time on Facebook. He says he wants to meet but I’m not sure he seems a little bit weird. Finally when my mother got done with work she showed up at my grandparent’s house completely wasted. So I just grabbed all of my stuff and started to walk down the dark and scary road in the middle of the night. I didn’t even worry about the flickering street lights or the noises I heard. All I could think about was getting away from my mom before she slaps me across the face for no reason.

As I was on my way down the hill I saw I figure coming up the road. It kind of freaked my out. So I just kept walking and my phone beeped and it said that the battery was low. So I couldn’t call out. As I got closer to the figure he ran toward me and pulled me in to the bushes. It turns out he was my father and he put me down on the ground and raped me. He held a knife to my throat and said that if I said anything he would slit my throat. He forced me into a car and drove for about an hour. And he dropped me off and said you will pay for what your mother did to me. He stuck u gun to my head and pulled the trigger.

Now I wonder what would have happened if my mother didn’t show up wasted now I dead and I wonder why?

I think that rainsford and Zarroff are very similar and very different in a lot of ways.

Some ways that Zarroff and Rainsford are similar is that they are both very good hunters and enjoy the sport very much. Rainsfor was acctuyally on a hunting trip when he met Zarroff and was lost. Zarroff was trying to be helpful, but not as helpful as you may think.

Some ways that Zarroff and Rainsford were different is that Zarroff hunted humans and Rainsford didn’t get bored with hunting and didn’t hunt humans like zarroff. And rainsford won the most dangerous game.

So Rainsford and Zarroff were very similar in ways and very different in ways.

Blog#2- Characteriztion

Recently in class, we have been studying characterization. Using the definition we have of characterization, compare and contrast the characters of Rainsford and Zaroff. Be sure to support your characterization of these two characters with support from the text.

For example, if you state that Rainsford has a lot of knowledge on hunting. You need to provide evidence from the text like: on p. 40, Zaroff mentions that he has read all of Rainsford’s books on hunting. This would indicate that Rainsford has a lot of knowledge on the topic of hunting since he was able to write multiple books on the subject. (This one is mine, so you can’t use it.)

You should have at least two paragraphs, of no fewer than 5 sentences. Also, this week, you need to post a comment on someone else’s blog.
